WHE
WILD HARVESTING EXCHANGE
WHE by Essentially Africa. Rooted in Eco Regeneration.
Everyday botanical care. A purpose that reaches further.
Essentially Africa began by inviting people to rediscover familiar botanicals through everyday rituals. Through education and personal experience, that journey creates space for trust, curiosity and new discoveries. WHE carries it forward, exploring the possibilities of wild-harvested plants for everyday personal care.
In 2021, we harvested khakibos near Eersterust to test a wild-harvesting concept.
The photographs capture that work: gathering the plants, loading the harvest and the golden-to-deep-amber essential oils we produced.

Today, that experience helps shape WHE as we explore how khakibos can become part of everyday personal care.
PRODUCT IN DEVELOPMENT

We are assessing the product’s suitability and performance, including its potential for freshness and odour management. We’ll share more as testing and development progress.

THE PURPOSE BEHIND THE DISCOVERY
Care for the land. Possibility for people. Purpose in the products we create.
Eco Regeneration is the wider vision behind WHE: connecting ecological regeneration with useful products, practical skills and local economic opportunity.
Developed through SEOBI, that vision brings together responsible harvesting, botanical processing and pathways towards restoring and stabilising land. WHE connects the people and work behind these activities with products and markets. Essentially Africa brings the WHE product range into everyday life through botanical education, product experience and customer care.
Our ambition reaches beyond the harvest. It includes appropriate replacement planting and long-term care for the places where we work. As this work develops, we will share the activities and results we can document.
